Jinan was honored at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Smart City Awards in Shenzhen on Nov 14, recognized for its smart development and digital transformation achievements. It's one of only five cities in China to be awarded and the only one in Shandong.

Eight cities were awarded, including Shenzhen, Chengdu, Changsha, and Yangzhou in China, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Singapore, and Sydney in Australia.

In recent years, the city has been developing a digital ecosystem, achieving breakthroughs in digital applications, and fully embracing the digital wave to expedite the industrialization and digitization of its industries.

It has also strengthened key digital industry projects, industrial clusters, and parks while implementing a series of initiatives to empower its digital economy and fortify crucial digital support.

The city's digital economy is surging ahead, with its core industries surpassing an output value of 600 billion yuan ($84 billion) last year, while its value-added component is projected to account for over 19 percent of regional GDP.
