Jinan hosts international green development conference

The 2024 International Cooperation Conference on Sustainable Development and the China-Europe (Jinan) Cooperation Conference on Green and Low-Carbon Economy opened at the Shandong Hotel – located in Jinan city, capital of East Chin's Shandong province – on Oct 22.
The ongoing conference – which runs to Oct 24 – is focused on international cooperation in green, low-carbon and sustainable development. It aims to create a high-level platform for global exchanges and to promote the green transformation of the economy and society as a whole.
The event has brought together embassies, international organizations, scholars and business representatives. They are there to foster cooperation between Shandong, Jinan and European countries in such areas as talent, technology and investment.
In a video address, Ren Hongbin, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, highlighted the country's efforts in advancing green and low-carbon development, contributing to global climate change mitigation and sustainability.
He added that Shandong continued to promote ecological protection and green growth, unveiling a new vision for high-quality development.
Estonian ambassador to China Hannes Hanso praised China's efforts in its green transformation and emphasized the importance of low-carbon development. He expressed confidence in the success of the shift towards a cleaner environment.
During the signing ceremony, 24 projects were finalized, with a total value topping 8 billion yuan ($1.12 billion), including 20 from Jinan.
The event is said to be fostering international cooperation and the exchange of ideas on green development – enabling businesses to secure orders, acquire new technologies and attract investments. Participants have reported achieved significant outcomes, making the event highly productive.
