The berthing marks the start of operations of the city's first dedicated container terminal, strengthening Dongying's role as a modern logistics hub and advancing high-quality regional economic development.
The terminal, developed by Dongying Urban Construction Group, features a 50,000-metic ton berth built to accommodate vessels of up to 100,000 tons. With an annual handling capacity of 300,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), it fills a critical gap in regional infrastructure and is expected to reduce logistics costs by up to 50 percent, offering significant savings to businesses in the surrounding area.
The terminal will be integrated into Shandong Port Group's extensive route network. New feeder lines are already operating between Dongying and ports including Qingdao, Yantai, and Weifang, with additional domestic routes being planned. Long-term development plans include international routes to Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
Dongying Port is also accelerating construction on 11 major infrastructure projects totaling over 13.7 billion yuan ($1.9 billion), including a 250,000-ton mooring point and a dedicated railway line. These projects aim to resolve long-standing logistical bottlenecks, support crude oil imports for regional refineries, and establish a multimodal transport system that connects road, rail, sea, and pipelines.
Together, these developments position Dongying Port as a key gateway to the Yellow River Delta and a rising regional shipping and logistics center.
